I also want to thank the parent volunteers who help out at practice.

Shiloh 8U All-Star Swim Party Friday Night

Yes, it took me a while to come up with something I think the girls might like for their party. The water park at Lenora was over 300 dollars (little to much), the jumpy bouncy place was booked.

So I called Summit Chase Country Club:
My friend Steve and Connie are members (their daughter, Danielle played for South against us). They have been gracious enough to book the pool for us for 2 hours Friday night. They are our honorary guests for the night

So lets party Friday night at 8pm at Summit Chase Country Club Pool. Please wear appropriate swim wear.
Party hours 8pm-1030ish
swim from 8-10
cake and certificates 10-1030.

I have ordered a cake for after we swim (a congrats for the girls) and we will purchase sodas from the club. (can't bring in food or drink from the outside, other then a cake)

The cost for this Party will be 5 dollars per player. I will cover the remaining cost.

What Can I Say

Except that I am extremely proud of everyone one on the team.
What a great day of softball:
Win against Walton county
24-13 against Peachtree Ridge
and One heck of a game against Mill Creek only 4 run difference.

There is not one player on the team that has not exceeded expectations. This is one awesome group of ball players. I was and am very honored to have the chance to coach them and I look forward to watching them in the future.

I believe the team party will be July 9th I am working with Kim Hyman to figure out where and time.

I will post as soon as we have the party set.

Reference Umpire situation

Good Afternoon Shiloh All-Star Parents:

After numerous phone calls after the game on Sunday I wanted you to know that I contacted the person over the tournment to discuss this matter, I felt you deserve to know what response I recieved to my letter. No matter what they decide to do our girls will play strong. Let the coaches handle the umpire issues. Please support our girls in a professional way they need your support. Coach Chris and I will take care of the complaints about any unfairness that has taken place.
Thanks for your assistance in this matter.

My name is June Reid and I am the head coach of the Shiloh All-Star 8U team. I am currently not at the tournment due to family plans but am in contact with all my players and my other coaches. At this time I am requesting that the two umpires who umpired the Shiloh and Mill Creek game on Sunday (8U) not be allowed to umpire any more Shiloh games. Some of my reasons are listed below and are from the Tri-County as well as the Mill Creek Game on Sunday (same plate umpire):

At the Tri County after time outs were called by the umpire (homeplate) he allowed a runner on the opposite team to advance (more then one time)

one of my girls threw the bat and he gave her a warning (no problems here), one from the other team did it and it hit my catcher in the feet. It was not called I asked for a time out and questioned it he said she did not throw it,

at Tri-County (Mill Creek) game the other coach questioned my team mobing an outfielder into the infield (which made 7 on the infield) the plate umpire told my team to put her back in the outfield. (I have left my assistant coaches with the rules so they were able to dispute it)

My second baseman catches the ball the runner returns to first umpire in the field calls time out. She throws the ball back to the circle and the runner advances and plate umpire says it is alright. she is safe at second base.

the plate umpire told my assistant coach that if the fans in the stand (who were responding to some imappropriate calls) did not quiet down he would have my team thrown out. (seems like you should kick the fan out not the softball team)

another player (my team) has two strikes next ball comes in and it hits off the bat and goes directly to the ground. Plate umpire calls her out on strikes (refuses coaches questions)

These are just a very few of the issues that I have faced with this umpire. I am a middle class, white, female who coaches a 8U softball team of whites, blacks, hispanics, and other races. I am not saying this is race related but it sure feels that way. I have no problem with umpires calling games but it must be equal for both sides. My team would probably (it would have) lost to Mill Creek past date but we should not have to play and have to question the umpires for almost every other call. These are young girls learning to play the game they should not have to play the umpire as well.

Is it possible to keep this set of umpires from umping the Shiloh games from now to the end of the tournment? These hard working girls should have the same opportunity as other teams to play without extreme predijuce of the umpire (I wish I knew the names for you but I assume you have them)

I would be glad to discuss this matter with you via telephone and wish I could in person.

Thank you for listening to this issue,
Coach June Reid
Shiloh 8U All-Star Coach
C (404-307-7440)

I will speak with our Umpire in Chief and discuss your concerns with him. I also spoke with one of our board members last night who talked with Chris Polk regarding the same situation and he and I discussed it at length last night after I received your email.

It will be difficult to guarantee you that these umpires will not be calling your games due to their schedule being set for certain fields and depending on where you are in the bracket at any given time.

However, I will speak with the head umpire tonight and see what we can do
Thank you,

I hope that they will attempt to put another umpire on our game Friday night. I know Coach Dave, Coach Steve, and Coach Chris will take care of the girls.

Pre-Tri County Tournment

The girls did a great job at the Pre-Tri County Tournment. We won 50% of our games which is not bad for a division that only had 24 athletes playing in regular season, we put together a team of 11 and took 4th in the first tournment and 5th in the pre-tri County. That is wonderful.

The girls should be very proud of what they have accomplished so far.

Coach Chris will be attending practice on Monday night to pitch to the girls since my family will be heading out of town for our annual family vacation. I wish it was another week. I hate to miss the tournment but we have 17 of us going and I can't change it. I will still be at practice this week and am going to try and make the first game depending on the brackets and game times.

Some items to work on this week:
  1. Hitting off Coach Chris
  2. Running the bases (when to slid, when to run back to the other base, how not to over run bases)
  3. Some situational issues (what to do with the ball if the other runner is almost at the base, if it is over thrown, etc)
  4. continue on working on catching outfield flies
  5. infield getting in front of the ball and gloves down.
This Thursday night is the last fundraiser at Brusters:
Athletes who wish to attend to help with the fundraiser need to meet at Brusters (Loganville) at 6pm we will have a table set up to sell Bruster fundraiser booklets. Please wear your all-star shirt or team shirt. The funds from this will help pay for the team party.  I will send out invitations for the team party this week with the date, time, and location.

Thursday Night

Great game tonight. 13-12 over Auburn

Hitting highlights:

Batting 1000% for this game:
Ania, Lauren, Sydney R., Madison

Kimaya and Sydney R. both hit homeruns
Ania, Sydney R, and Faith hit triples
Ania, Danielle, Madison hit doubles

A few fielding highlights:
SYDNEY F. Awesome throw to third to make the play.
Courtney Awesome job in right field and backing up 1st base
Aalijah and Lauren made sure second base was covered this game which kept the other team to singles
Emily made some awesome attempts at catching a fly ball

I was torn between having practice tomorrow night and not. Basically to give the girls a day of rest. But in the end I think if we want to continue to win we need to work on a few more things:

  1. Where to throw the ball after you make an out and we are still in play
  2. Working with the outfielders on catching fly balls
  3. Communicating with each other in the field.
  4. we also have a few kinks to work out in a few bats. Some may have had an off day today. I noticed one who was very luggish in her swing. (normally she drives the ball)
  5. baserunning when sliding should be used. I think Sydney F would have been safe at second if she slid
With all this being said we still had one heck of a game. All the coaches are very proud of the girls and what they have accomplished so far. As of Friday night at 10pm we are one of four undefeated teams out of 11 teams

I also want to thank lauren's mom for the wonderful S for our helmets. They look really sharp thank you

Game time Saturday 6/12 @ 1100am field 3

Now the what if games:
when we win on Sat at 11AM WE PLAY 6/13 AT 1030AM
when we win. We play again at 130 pm Championship round.

But by change we lose to Mill Creek we go I am going to say this will not happen so we will no discuss the losers bracket at the present moment.

The top 4 teams as of tonight are:
Barrow
Walton
Shiloh
Millcreek or Ptree Ridge

See you at practice Tomorrow at 6pm

Be at the park at 645 for warm ups

Called GP park and it is not raining there. So games are still on. Hope everyone is ready for another great night of softball.
see you there

We also had some awesome plays in the field.
